It would appear that my curse is not limited to the Internet. “What curse?” you might be asking. You see, whenever I discover an online comic that I like, it invariably stops being made. This has happened so many times I’ve stopped looking for new ones to read. The only criteria seems to be that the comic not suck, which is a shame because I would be willing to read some shitty web comics if it meant they would go away forever. Alas, all that would happen in that case would be that I’d have wasted my time reading a shitty web comic.
It seems this curse has transferred into the real world. Earlier this year I started listening to a local radio station. The station had a gimmick where they pretended it was run by a computer named “Bob” and as such there were no DJs. There was only music (and of course commercials). The music was pretty consistently not bad, too. For the first time since I was in high school, I started listening to a commercial radio station.
That all ended this weekend. At first we thought the station was “broken” because they had one song on repeat all weekend; Lucky Star by Madonna. Turns out the station was changing to a new ‘formula,’ and calling themselves “Star FM” (hence the star song). I wasn’t worried at first, maybe they were just changing names. Maybe they simply thought the “Bob” thing was played out and not working.
This morning my fears were realized. I turned on the radio to hear … A FUCKING “MORNING SHOW”.
I hate morning shows. I hate them more than anything else on radio, and that includes commercials with shitty jingles, and rap music. I hate the fact that they talk instead of playing music, I hate the puked laughter they make after every sentence. I hate every gimmicky topic they discuss every fucking second of the day. I don’t even know what music they’re gonna play on that station now, and frankly I don’t care. I even went online to their website to see what was up, and what they said their format was. All I know is they have the gall to claim their morning show has “More music, contests and fun – guarenteed.” Really? More music? I’m pretty sure that’s impossible because you ADDED SHIT THAT ISN’T MUSIC TO A STATION THAT ONLY PLAYED MUSIC. Also that typo is theirs, not mine.
That brings me to another point, their morning show sounded amateur. It was bad, even by shitty morning show standards. I checked out their DJ bio pages, and they are embarrassing. It’s like amateur hour at the “learn to be a DJ in just 45 minutes.” class. Suffice it to say it’s bad.
At this point I have no idea what format this new shit-fest is running, and I really don’t care. I’m just pissed that once again something I like went away.
